Two Jobs in Ten Days
When Roy Mathiew signed up for Professional Membership, results came faster than he dared to hope for:
"I must tell you, I've been looking for work on the Internet for some time now and I'm very happy I signed on for a trial subscription with Freelance Work Exchange," he says. "
Roy responded to some job postings in the Jobs Database, and got an immediate response.
"In less than ten days, I have already received two assignments through those enquiries, been paid for one of them, and may get another from this same client soon! I admit I was a bit skeptical about whether it would be worthwhile to sign on, but this makes me feel so much better. The Jobs Database obviously has real people with real needs, and they are willing to pay for someone to attend to them. What's more, I like the variety in it as it allows me to decide what to take on, whether it's a writing or layout assignment - I have the choice, thanks to Freelance Work Exchange and its clientele."
Roy has lots of experience of desktop publishing, which he finds to be a great leap forward in technology, compared to traditional methods.
"To those who joined this field after 1984 it's probably no big deal," he says. "But before this, pre-press production was tedious. Preparing a page for printing meant dealing with typesetters who supplied bromides for paste-up before artwork could be done and converted to films. Only then could plates be made for the print run. DTP has not only simplified and sped this up tremendously, it has given unlimited flexibility to the designer."
So nowadays, a writer like Roy can lay out copy immediately after writing it, using Quark or PageMaker.
"This is why the Jobs Database is a real boon. I have landed a couple of writing assignments and intend to get others that involve design and page make-up, since I enjoy doing this as well. To anyone looking for a similar opportunity, I'd say jump in, because if you have a skill, talent or experience to offer, this is one place where you will be compensated for it. Thanks again Rob!"
Furthermore, Freelance Work Exchange helped her to rename the services that she offered as "marketing collateral" to the corporate world. She changed her pitch to "copywriting, editing, proofreading, translating, layout and design for print and web media.". This seemingly simple mind-shift helped open up a new market segment at a critical period.
"I love being a consultant," Amanda says. "Being able to work on a diverse range of projects with different people, projects and industries, is the high point of my career. But you know something? I want to work and produce results, not spend my all of my time LOOKING for work! Freelance Work Exchange offers me a real solution that my micro-business can afford, with an authentic virtual marketplace for buyers and sellers to come together. For that, I offer them my deepest and sincerest thanks.
